If I were a bird…I would definitely have to be a crow! I love all birds (apart from when they insist on waking me up approximately 45 minutes before my alarm is about to sound 😩). But I have an affinity for birds that are black; crows in particular. I’m not entirely sure why; maybe that I find them majestic.
I have had the pleasure of meeting this absolutely stunning creature & watching her progress over the last few months. Her name is Skuld (known in Norse mythology as one of the 3 Goddesses who weave the threads of destiny. She is the youngest & represents the future). She was found by one of our Witchy customers, who is known for taking in injured or sick birds & nursing them back to health before releasing them back into the wild. Skuld was only young & had no flight feathers. She has gained in confidence & in flight feathers & is on her journey to becoming a bird of flight. She has built a relationship with Nigel (her rescuer) & they have built a mutual trust. It’s the most beautiful thing to watch.
My dad has also been known over the years to take in many sick & injured birds of all kinds. He is also currently taking care of a crow, who’s name changes on a daily basis; from Sheryl to Russell then back to Sheryl 🤣. Once they are fit to take care of themselves, he releases them into safe territory & the crows always come back; tapping on his window for their breakfast 🖤
This is one of the many wonderful things about crows; they can form attachments to humans. They are known for their intelligence & can recognise people & form strong bonds with them. They can learn to trust humans & associate them with positive experiences, such as, food. They can also recognise themselves in mirrors, use tools, play & problem solve. This fascinates me endlessly & creates a massive sense of respect for the birds. I will go into Crow symbolism in the near future.
Interesting fact…a group of crows is called a MURDER
So, next time you come across a Crow…be kind…they also remember negative experiences!
